Bringing more business and industry to eastern Idaho is a major priority for the region. Regional Economic Development Eastern Idaho was created specifically for that purpose. The CEO of REDI, Jan Rogers, says selling the region to potential businesses and industries is the first thing that needs to be done. "Our issue is being able to tell the story, in a way that resonates with business," she said. "We haven't been very good at tooting our horn when we do have opportunities come up. You know, we do have successes. Certainly Amy's Kitchen in Pocatello is a big deal." She also says places like the Idaho National Lab, BYU Idaho and Idaho State University and the national parks are also attractive. "Look at the city of Blackfoot as an example. Their greenbelt is amazing. You wouldn't expect that in a city of this size," she said. "And the zoo here at Tautphaus Park, I mean just the amenities along the river in Idaho Falls." Rogers was the executive director of Southern Idaho Economic Development Organization and joined REDI in September 2015.
