Lemhi supercomputer boosts research capacity across Idaho universities

The new Lemhi supercomputer — a high-performance computing platform hosted in Idaho Falls through a partnership between Idaho National Laboratory and Idaho’s public universities — is expanding advanced research capacity for institutions including Boise State University, University of Idaho, and Idaho State University, enabling faster, more efficient computing for projects in AI, energy, health sciences, wildfire science, and more. Researchers can now tackle complex problems and compete for major federal funding with computing resources on par with leading institutions.

For Eastern Idaho and the state as a whole, Lemhi strengthens our research ecosystem, supports workforce development in science and technology fields, and enhances collaboration across universities and national labs. Investment in cutting-edge research infrastructure helps cultivate talent, attract research dollars, and amplify visibility for tech-driven innovation rooted right here at home.

This aligns with REDI’s mission to grow a resilient, innovation-focused economy that supports job creation and long-term prosperity across the region. When world-class research capabilities are rooted in Idaho, it reinforces why you belong in Eastern Idaho.
